Human rights activist, pioneer for racial equality, author Richard Lapchick has leveraged his standing in the sports world to advocate for inclusion, encouraging players to speak out against injustice for more than 50 years and consulting with companies as an expert on managing diversity. He has received countless awards and honors, including the Arthur Ashe Institute Leadership Award in 2021 in recognition of his trailblazing work and dedication to diversity and social justice, the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian of the Year Award in 2021 (watch his acceptance speech here >>), and he was included on Beyond Sport's Inspirational 50 people (living and passed) who used sport to change the world along with Billie Jean King, Muhammad Ali, and Nelson Mandela. He has also been honored with the John Carlos and Tommie Smith Social Justice Champion Award and the 2023 Stuart Scott Enspire ESPY Award. Lapchick imparts meaningful insights about building thriving, inclusive teams and creating a culture of equality in sport, in our companies, and in life.

Lapchick believes sport can be an effective instrument of positive social change, and launched the DeVos Sports Business Management Program, which SportsBusiness International called one of the top programs in the world. A prolific author, Lapchick has published 17 books and is a regular columnist for ESPN.com and The Sports Business Journal. Considered among the nation’s experts on sport and social issues, he has spoken in the United States Congress, at the United Nations, the European Parliament, and the Vatican, most notably. He is a board member of the Women’s Sports Foundation, the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games, United Abolitionists, and the onePULSE Foundation. He founded the Hope for Stanley Alliance and Shut Out Trafficking.
