Longevity in a High-Performance World
Ice dance demands two people move with absolute precision while responding to the same music, timing, and pressure. MADISON CHOCK and EVAN BATES share what fifteen years of elite competition taught them about trust, communication, and building a partnership that can withstand setbacks, reinvention, and Olympic stakes.
Staying in Sync When the Stakes Are Highest
When two athletes perform together, success depends on alignment in every sense. MADISON CHOCK and EVAN BATES share how preparation and communication allow teams to perform with confidence when every detail matters.
The Hidden Details of Elite Performance
At the Olympic level, small details separate gold from fourth place. MADISON CHOCK and EVAN BATES reveal the invisible preparation behind a world-class program and how precision, preparation, and focus transform good performances into unforgettable ones.
Madison Chock, 33, and Evan Bates, 37, are the most decorated American ice dance team in history. Over the course of their fifteen-year partnership, they have built an extraordinary legacy, highlighted by a gold medal in the team event and a silver medal in ice dance at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games, where Bates had the distinct honor of being the flag bearer for Team USA at the Closing Ceremonies.
In addition to their success in 2026, Chock and Bates are 2022 Olympic gold medalists in the team event, six-time World Championship medalists — including three consecutive world titles from 2023 through 2025 — and a record breaking seven-time U.S. Champions.
Evan, a proud native of Ann Arbor, Michigan, first stepped onto the ice at just four years old and began competing a year later. He became the 52nd member of his family to graduate from the University of Michigan. Madison was born in Redondo Beach, California, and started skating at age five. She is of Chinese-Hawaiian heritage on her father’s side and often shares that Hawaii is her favorite place in the world. Madison’s full name, Madison La’akea Te-Lan Hall Chock, carries special meaning: “La’akea” means “sacred light from heaven,” and “Te-Lan” translates to “special or unique orchid” in Hawaiian.
The couple became engaged in 2022 and were married in Hawaii on June 20, 2024. Routinely acknowledged as one of the best-dressed ice dance teams, both on and off the ice, Chock, keenly interested in fashion and design, designs the couple’s costumes. In recent years, she has begun designing for other skaters and teams through her own business called Madison Chock Design. Together, they share their home with two toy poodles, Henry, and Stella.
