Simu Liu is one of the most sought after multi-hyphenates working today. Born to Chinese immigrant parents and raised in Canada, he left a business career at the age of 23 to pursue acting and has taken the world by storm since.
Liu will next be seen starring in the highly-anticipated Marvel film AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY, where he will reprise his role as Shang-Chi along an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Channing Tatum, and Florence Pugh. This will mark Shang-Chi’s first return to the Marvel universe following Liu’s history-making run in 2021 as the lead of Marvel’s first Asian-fronted film, SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS. The film was a massive Box Office hit, grossing over $432M worldwide.
He recently wrapped production on the upcoming sci-fi survival thriller HOMEWRECKER, where he will star as the male lead opposite Allison Williams and Michelle Randolph. The film follows three star-crossed Americans who are suddenly forced to work together to survive a terrifying unexplained global event that threatens to destroy life as they know it.
This past Winter, Liu made his Broadway debut in the hit Tony Award-winning play OH, MARY! He starred as Mary’s Teacher, playing opposite John Cameron Mitchell as Mary Todd Lincoln. His performances ran from February 3rd - April 21st, 2026.
In Winter 2025, Liu starred in and executive produced Peacock’s “The Copenhagen Test.” He starred opposite Melissa Barrera in the series, which followed a US intelligence analyst (Liu) who discovers his brain has been hacked, giving unknown perpetrators a live sensory feed of everything he sees and hears. The series premiered on December 27, 2025.
In Summer 2023, Liu starred opposite Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the Greta Gerwig-directed Academy Award nominated film, BARBIE. He played “Rival Ken” opposite Gosling’s Ken. The film was box office sensation, awards darling and cultural phenomenon. BARBIE maintained its moment after being released on July 21, 2023 through to the Academy Awards the following March, where Liu joined Gosling and the other Kens on stage with Mark Ronson to perform the Academy Award-nominated original song, “I’m Just Ken.”

In Spring 2022, Liu released his New York Times best-selling memoir, WE WERE DREAMERS: AN IMMIGRANT SUPERHERO ORIGIN STORY. The memoir chronicles his family’s journey from China to Canada, his struggles to meet parental expectations, a failed accounting career, and his eventual rise to stardom.
Liu is a vocal advocate for greater diversity in film and media. He is a partner at Markham Valley Ventures, which strives to uplift AAPI leaders across business and culture. Liu also serves as the Chief Content Officer for MìLà, an AAPI-owned modern Chinese food brand. He was named one of TIME Magazine’s "100 Most Influential People" in 2022.
