Justin Trudeau served as Canada’s 23rd Prime Minister from 2015 to 2025, leading the Liberal Party from third place to a majority government victory in his first national campaign. His vision for Canada is a country where everyone has a real and fair chance to succeed—an outlook shaped by his experiences as a teacher, father, leader, and advocate for youth. The oldest of three boys, he grew up with the profound influence of his father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, and his mother, Margaret Trudeau.
A graduate of McGill University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1994, he went on to complete the University of British Columbia’s education program and spent several years teaching in Vancouver before entering politics. In 2007, Trudeau built a grassroots campaign to win the Liberal Party nomination in the Montréal riding of Papineau, where he was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2021.
As Prime Minister, he appointed Canada’s first gender-balanced cabinet, introduced the Canada Child Benefit—which lifted more than 435,000 children out of poverty—and implemented an ambitious $10-a-day national childcare program. He took substantive action to fight climate change, making unprecedented investments to protect Canada’s natural environment and set the country on a path to net-zero emissions by 2050. On the global stage, Trudeau became a prominent voice for progressive values and hosted both G7 and G20 summits during his tenure. His government’s priorities included fighting climate change, creating good middle-class jobs, making life more affordable, keeping communities safe, and advancing reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
He is the proud father of Xavier, Ella-Grace, and Hadrien.
