Super Bowl 56 winner, Andrew Whitworth, played offensive tackle for the LA Rams. Andrew was born and raised in Louisiana and went off to play college football at LSU from 2001 – 2005. During his time at LSU, he received first-team All-SEC honors twice and had 52 career starts from 2002-2005 which ranks second in NCAA Division I history.
In 2006, he was drafted in the 2nd round, 55th overall, to the Cincinnati Bengals. Andrew played for the Bengals from 2006 – 2016. Andrew was shifted from guard to left tackle in 2009 and saw immediate results. He started all 16 games that season and only allowed 5 sacks. Fast forward to the 2013 season, for the first time in his career, Andrew was named left tackle on the AFC Pro Bowl team. In 2014, Andrew allowed zero sacks that season which lead the Bengals to extend his contract 1 year in September 2015.
On March 9, 2017, Andrew signed a three-year contract with the LA Rams. During his first season with the Rams, Andrew made it to his 4th Pro Bowl and was ranked 87th by his peers on the NFL Top 100 Players of 2018. Andrew helped get his team to Super Bowl LIII but were unfortunately defeated by the New England Patriots. In the 8th week of his 2019 seasons, the Rams defeated the Bengals and with that victory, Andrew became only the 12th starter in NFL history to earn victories against all 32 NFL teams.
On April 1, 2020, Andrew signed a three year extension with the LA Rams. Suffering a torn MCL later that year, he was placed on injury reserve and was re-activated on January 7th just in time for playoffs.
With the 2021 season underway, Andrew found success with Matthew Stafford and the rest of the LA Rams. Days leading up to Super Bowl LVI, Andrew was named the 2021 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and capped of the 2021 season by defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 and earning his first Super Bowl win. Andrew, announced his retirement after 16 seasons, playing in 239 regular season games, and 235 starts on March 15, 2022.
