The Grapevine

Owner, Creator and Host Ashley Akunna and Owner, Executive Producer, and Co-Host Donovan Thompson come together to create The Grapevine, a television show on YouTube with panel-style discussions on topics from politics to pop culture, the economy, and more. With an audience that boasts over 190,000 subscribers, the grassroots series places hot button issues in the hands of Millennial and Gen Z panelists to dissect and bring forth fresh, raw and nuanced conversation. The Grapevine is known for featuring Black millennial voices and discussing Black issues that may not get coverage in the mainstream media, bringing issues that previously were only chatted about in private circles to the screen. When Akunna and Thompson come together as The Grapevine in their talks, their discussions are just as electric and educational as the show, bringing forth conversations on colorism, race, beauty standards, queer and gender identities, and so much more.

EXCLUSIVE NEW
  • Owner, Executive Producer & Co-Host, 'The Grapevine'

Curious to his core, Donovan is a rule-breaker hell-bent on moving culture forward. As a content creator, producer, writer, and performer, he harnesses the power of storytelling to normalize empathy. Growing up Black and gay in Brooklyn during the 90s put him at odds with the world around him. Fitting in wasn’t an option and luckily, he’d have it no other way. His love for music and art provided a great escape, but it has also fueled his passion to confront outdated social attitudes. He’s on a mission to prove through The Grapevine, his hit digital talk-show, as well as his upcoming tv and literary works, that confrontation and compassion together, are a great recipe for progress.
