Agnia Grigas is an energy and political risk expert, specializing in Russia, Europe, and the post-Soviet states. She has more than a decade of experience as an advisor to corporations and government institutions.

She is the author of three critically acclaimed books: The New Geopolitics of Gas (Harvard UP forthcoming 2017), Beyond Crimea: The New Russian Empire (Yale UP 2016), The Politics of Energy and Memory Between the Baltic States and Russia (Ashgate 2013, Routlege 2016). She is currently working on her forth book on political risk.

Dr. Grigas earned her Master’s and Doctorate degrees in international relations from the University of Oxford and graduated cum laude with a BA in politics and economics from Columbia University.

In the private sector, Dr. Grigas has advised multinational corporations and organizations in the energy, technology, and finance sectors. Her clients have included the likes of Barclays Bank, where she led its international growth initiatives including opening a global strategic engineering center in Lithuania and community outreach programs in India, UK, and Singapore. Previously, Agnia worked as an associate with leading global consultancy Eurasia Group (2007-2008), where she advised on emerging markets for its multinational clients. Agnia began her career as a financial analyst at JP Morgan (2002-2003), where she worked on Eurobond issuance for corporations and governments in emerging markets. More recently, she also had the chance to burnish her entrepreneurial and management skills as an executive at the start-up OneGo (CEO from 2011-2014).

Agnia’s professional experience extends into public service as well. Serving as an advisor on energy security and economy to the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs (2008-2009), she specialized in regional gas diversification solutions that led to the Klaipeda LNG Terminal and concluded one of the nation’s largest foreign investment projects in the technology sector. She had also served as a Fellow in the Georgian President’s Office (2001).

Since 2015, Dr. Grigas has been a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council in Washington DC and since 2014 at the McKinnon Center for Global Affairs at Occidental College. She also collaborates with prominent American and European institutions and has published studies for The Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House), Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Notre Europe Jacques Delors Institute, among others.

An experienced communicator on screen, in print, and in person she is an official contributor to The Hill and a frequent media commentator (CNN, Forbes, New York Times, Newsweek, Bloomberg, and Reuters among others).

An avid traveller, Lithuanian-born Agnia has visited more than 50 countries and has studied and worked in Lithuania, Georgia, Russia, England and France. Currently she resides in Washington DC with her husband and two children.
