A leading conservative commentator, John Podhoretz is considered the standard bearer for America’s modern conservative movement.  Podhoretz was born to a Jewish family in New York City and is the son of conservative journalists. Podhoretz served as speechwriter to former U.S. President Ronald Reagan as well as former President George H.W. Bush.

Podhoretz has contributed to a number of conservative publications, including National Review and the Weekly Standard, where he is a movie critic and was the magazine's deputy editor. He was also a consulting editor at ReganBooks, a former imprint of HarperCollins. Podhoretz has a regular column at the New York Post. He has also appeared on television as a political commentator, on Fox News, CNN's Reliable Sources, and The McLaughlin Group (in the chair usually occupied by conservative Tony Blankley), among other places. He has also worked at Time, the Washington TimesInsight on the News, and U.S. News & World Report. Podhoretz was a contributor to The Corner, a group blog run by National Review.

Biography

John  Podhoretz is a twice-weekly columnist for the New York Post, a political commentator for the Fox News Channel, a cultural commentator for National Review Online and  the  editor for Commentary magazine. His book, Bush Country: How Dubya Became a Great President While Driving Liberals Insane, is a New York Times bestseller.

He was co-founder and deputy editor of the Weekly Standard from 1995-1997 before returning to the New York Post as its Editorial Page Editor. (He had been the paper’s television critic from 1994 to 1995.) Later, he also served as the paper’s arts and features editor before becoming a full-time columnist.

Mr. Podhoretz has worked at Time, The Washington Times, Insight and U.S. News & World Report. He was a speechwriter for President Ronald Reagan in 1988 and as special assistant to Drug Czar William Bennett. He co-founded the White House Writers Group, a corporate speech writing and public-relations firm, and was the publisher of The Republican Faxwire.

He has been a regular panelist on CNN’s Reliable Sources and Westwood One’s The News Breakers, and New York 1’s Reporters Roundtable, and has appeared on hundreds of television and radio talk shows. In addition, he performs improvisational comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater and the People’s Improvisational Theater in New York City. His book, Hell of a Ride: Backstage at the White House Follies 1989-1993, was published by Simon & Schuster. He was the editor of A Passion or Truth: The Selected Writings of Eric Breindel, published in 1999 by HarperCollins. Mr. Podhoretz lives in Manhattan with his wife, Ayala.
