“It was a treat to work with Jane Goodall and her associates. All the members of her team were friendly and professional, and were immensely helpful in setting up the book selling and signing space. Jane Goodall herself was a delight. She is an undemanding celebrity, who cheerfully gave greatly of herself during her time at Hanover College. Dr. Goodall drew an audience of some 2,500 people to the College, the largest convocation audience here in decades. Her talk was insightful and inspiring. After a Q&A period, Dr. Goodall spent three hours signing books. She will not leave until everyone who wants a book signed or a photo has been satisfied. Dr. Goodall’s visit truly was an EVENT – something that will be remembered here for years."
-- Dan Murphy, Hanover College
“The event was extremely successful for us. We had a full house which seats 2500 people. When she walked onto the stage the whole audience immediately stood and gave her a standing ovation before she said a word, it was very moving. Everyone was so focused on every word she said; she certainly has quite an effect on people. She was very gracious and wonderful to work with the entire time she was here on campus with us. We had our own students, faculty and staff as well as alumni, middle school and high school students from several schools and other people that attended the event. People from all walks of life seem to be drawn to her and interested in what she has to say.”
- Elsa R. Conboy, Rivers Institute at Hanover College
"Jane Goodall's talk was a big hit! The students loved her, and she struck just the right note for a college graduation, focusing on possibilities and inviting our students to join others to make the world better. She began with a chimpanzee welcome, and just kept going from strength to strength, in language the students and their parents could relate to, no matter what their political beliefs. I am delighted that she was able to join us, and I hope she had a good time. I know we did."
- Jo Thomas, Associate Chancellor, Syracuse University
"She was absolutely fantastic! I can't say enough about her. Our audience loved her and would absolutely recommend her to another group. She even brought me to tears!"
-Jeorjina Maltbie, Senior Marketing Coordinator, Hogan & Hartson (Law Firm)
"People were extremely moved by Dr. Goodall’s visit and our students are already actively starting their own Roots and Shoots chapter."
- Sheila Wilson, The College of Wooster
"On behalf of the Officers and Members of CHPA's Board of Directors, we want to thank you for being a speaker at our 2002 Annual Executive Conference...Your thoughtful comments about the state of our environment, our treatment of animals and our attention to preserving our world were both insightful and a call to action. We appreciated your thoughtful reflections on your forty-year career and your hopes for the future with your very successful 'Roots and Shoots' organization. From your groundbreaking work with the chimpanzees in Nairobi to your worldwide efforts as a messenger of peace, your remarks encouraged our members to give thought to how they are leaving this world for their children. Many of our attendees were absolutely captivated by your observations resulting from your research with the chimps and how that effort continues today with the descendants of those first ones who allowed you into their world to discover how alike we really are."
- Robert G. Donovan, President, Consumer Healthcare Products Association
“World-renowned scientist Jane Goodall, Ph.D., DBE, spoke last night at the Freede Center as a part of the Distinguished Speakers Series. We estimate that we had 4000 people in attendance for her lecture, each of whom no doubt left feeling more inspired than when they came! Dr. Goodall signed books until 12:50 a.m., which is the longest book signing in our history and within 30 minutes of the longest in hers!”
– Oklahoma City University
"Your life certainly exemplifies many of the values we encourage here at Strong: striving to achieve goals, then reaching higher for the next ones; persistently pursuing the answers to your questions; and importantly, doing work you love. Our associates have been telling us in the past week and a half how much it meant to have you here, and how your stories touched them. You are a woman of great conviction, which comes across clearly, even with your soft-spoken nature. That nature surely is why the chimps came to feel so comfortable around you; they know you meant them no harm."
-Jody R. Lowe and Margaret R.A. Fox, Strong Capital Management, Inc.
"The over-the-top capacity audience was an indication of your stature in the field of primatology and as you can tell, our community was looking forward to your presentation. Your anecdotes about your experiences and insights into your work at Gombe, as well as your own childhood were most memorable, and many people have told me how excited and inspired they were from your lecture."
-Roberta Haas, Lecture Series Coordinator, The Dowmel Foundation
"One word - phenomenal. We sold out of tickets (3000) almost two weeks in advance of Dr. Goodall's lecture. Our phones didn't stop ringing for weeks.
Her lecture and book signing were amazing and truly inspirational. ... In all sincerity, I would work with you, your staff, and your agency again in a heartbeat. "
"She was terrific. Jane was very engaging and captivated the crowd."
"Everyone is still talking about how extraordinary it was to hear you and how much your work has changed our perceptions of our relationship to other beings. That you have lived your life so decidedly on your own terms - and in the process have given us so much new knowledge and understanding of our world - has been a wonderful inspiration. Your visit was a highlight of the year for all of us here."
-Barbara A. Shailor, Dean of Douglass College
